Hi Cathy,
just googled “Yamaha NS2000” and came across your website. I read with interest that you can repair the bass drivers of these beasts and that replacement recones are no longer available.
I reckon I must have got on of the last pair of recones on earth as a few years back I experienced the heart stopping moment of discovering the foam surround on my pair had perished, literally falling into holes as I touched them.
I contacted Yamaha UK and explained to their service manager the problem. At first he thought I meant the 1000’s as he had never seen a pair of 2000’s. Well to cut a long story short, they spent the next 5 weeks scouring the world for a pair of recones, Japan, the US, Australia, Germany, France etc etc before finding success with the Swedish distributor. I got a local old boy, very experienced at this type of work, to fit them and they are now better than ever.
Interestingly the new cones have a sort of neoprene impregnated cloth material in place of the foam which Yamaha tell me should last much longer.
I bought them in 1984 and use them with my NS1000m’s (bought new in 1978) and have tried dozens of others with a view to updating them without finding better (at least to my ear).
Didn’t want to bore you but thought you might be interested.
Keep up the good work, regards Tony
Hi Tony can you please tell me who in Sweden you got help from I need the same help?
